Welcome To Our DHS National Honor Society Website

The National Honor Society was formed in 1921 by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, with Edward Rynearson given credit as the founder.  It was formed to give schools a way to promote high academic standards, ensure the continuation of democracy, and to provide an instrument for the betterment of the individual and the school.  There are currently over 15,000 chapters of the National Honor Society all across the country.

The first time that Darrouzett High School had a chapter of NHS was in 1978.  That chapter was formed due to the influence of Nawaasa Wheatley, a teacher at Darrouzett ISD for many years, and was named after her.  That chapter remained in place until Darrouzett High School closed in 1992.  The members who are about to be inducted will be the first National Honor Society members for Darrouzett High School in 17 years.
